Just a week!
13 february 2014
  • Just a week to go till Sellaronda starts. Next Friday 600 teams will set off from Canazei. During the next few days the top skiers will confirm their participation.

There will be 1200 competitors who will tackle Sellaronda’s 42 kilometers and more than 2700 meters vertical height gain to conquer the four Dolomite mountain passes: Sella, Gardena, Campolongo and Pordoi pass. On Friday 21 February at 6 pm what is known as ski mountaineering’s Formula one will start off from Canazei.
«These days- Oswald Santin the event’s coordinator tells us- we are studying the weather forecast’s tendency, there is a good chance that the weather instability which has recently brought meters of powder snow on the Dolomites should leave space to high pressure. No matter what happens though our organization is ready for anything. Next Friday 600 couples will set off from Canazei, at the beginning we had set the maximum number of participants to 500 couples, but due to a few problems tied with paying the registration fee we have accepted an extra 75 teams. During the next few days, after the weekend competitions, the “pro” athletes will register, and therefore we expect 600 teams to compete».
The Sellaronda contest is the right mix between tradition and innovation, the Organizational Committee cares deeply about its roots,

just think of the senators (athletes who have taken part in every single edition) Valerio Lorenz and Olivo Micheluzzi: when they cross the finishing line they are cheered on just as much as the winners are. Skimarathon also means innovation, after last year’s edition, the live stream of the contest, which has been enhanced and improved, will be broadcast just a few minutes before the start and will follow the competitors along this amazing course all the way to Canazei.
For those of you who will join us online from home you will be able to enjoy the live program featuring important guests and real time broadcasts as well as watching the competition’s most interesting moments.
Do not miss one moment of the comp, join us on the wesbite www.sellaronda.it from 5.30 pm, next Friday.
Last year the winners were Denis Brunod and Tadei Pivk with a time of 3:18’37” Filippo Beccari and Nejc Kuhar were second 2’48” while Alessandro Follador and Daniele Pedrini came in third.
The women saw Francesca Martinellu and the Spaniard Mireia Mirò win with a time of 3:53’59” setting a new course record. Raffaella Rossi and Laura Besseghini came in second place in front of Martina Valmassoi and Silvia Rocca, third across the finish line.
