- All lines closed, stop registration. In only 28
hours a record number of applications were reached
“No more calls!” is what a tv quiz show
would have said but yesterday afternoon the same
thing happened at the registration centre for Sellaronda.
Registration opened at midday on Wednesday 8 January
with a record number of applications and within 28
hours the limit of 475 teams had been reached.
The huge number of requests were a challenge to the
registration and payment system which had been put
in place but after the first few hours the flow became
regular and requests for registration were back to
“We were really surprised”, said Oswald Santin – “last
year we closed registration after about 80 hours, but for this edition the ‘Sellarondists’ took
less than half that time. By 4 p.m. on Thursday 10 January we shut down after
reaching the limit of 500 teams. Soon, on 20 January to be exact, we shall
publish the final list online with the numbers assigned.
The present system of registration will obviously
have to be changed.
Every year we make some changes, but the athletes
even in this situation are very fast and increasing
in number. Both the athletes and our admin office
were put to the test over the past few days and I
am really sorry about this and take this opportunity
